UGACRs prepare for AIPAC policy conference

Two members of the UGA College Republicans, Chairman Katie Flanigan and Public Relations Director Jeff Emanuel, are set to attend the America-Israel Public Affairs Commision's (AIPAC) Policy Conference 2006 March 5-7 in Washington, D.C. The conference features speeches and round-table discussions with political figures such as Vice President Dick Cheney, former Senator John Edwards (D-NC), former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA), Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu, and over 40 others, exploring the most pressing issues related to America's Middle East policy. This year's conference will feature sessions such as "Nuclear Countdown: What Can Be Done to Stop Iran" and "Israeli Politics: A Survey of the New Landscape." In a segment designed specifically for student-leaders, AIPAC attendees also take part in sophisticated seminars and training sessions designed to further develop leadership skills and encourage involvement in the political process.

AIPAC is a non-partisan organization with 100,000 members across 50 states who are at the forefront of the most vexing issues facing Israel today: stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, fighting terrorism and achieving peace. And above all, ensuring that Israel is strong enough to meet these challenges. AIPAC's Political Leadership Development Program educates and trains young leaders and encourages them to become politically active. Students involved with AIPAC learn how to effectively advocate, bring their Members of Congress to campus, promote voter registration, work on political campaigns, and build relationships with other student leaders. For these reasons, the New York Times has called AIPAC the most important organization affecting America's relationship with Israel, while Fortune magazine has consistently ranked AIPAC among America's most powerful interest groups.
