Freedom Alliance to UN: "Heal thyself"

The President of the Freedom Alliance, Tom Kilgannon, responded to the UN's call for America to close the terrorist detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba by saying, "The United Nations, which is one of the most corrupt, secretive, unaccountable institutions in the world, is in no position to be lecturing to the United States."

"I am not surprised that UN officials are calling on the United States to set terrorists free and let them run wild throughout the global community," continued Kilgannon. "The UN has been AWOL in the war on terror since it began and this is yet another example that the institution and the bureaucrats who run it are incapable of distinguishing between good and evil."

"The United Nations should clean up its own act before trying to stain the reputation of the most decent country on earth. They can begin with the UN Human Rights Commission which rolls out the red carpet for genocidal dictators. They can clean out the bureaucrats who accepted bribes from Saddam Hussein and corrupted the Oil-for-Food program. They can bring to justice blue-helmeted UN peacekeepers who violate innocent children in third world countries. They can ensure that state sponsors of terrorism are not rewarded with seats on the UN Security Council as was the recent case of Syria. The U.S. message to the United Nations ought to be: Physician, heal thyself."

"On the one hand the UN is saying it doesn't trust America to be a fair and even-handed arbiter of justice, yet it is asking for our help and resources in Sudan and throughout the world."

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and President Bush met on Tuesday to discuss increasing the multinational military presence in Darfur, Sudan.
