Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney Scott Ballard spoke to the UGA College Republicans Wednesday, February 15 meeting. He spoke on the legal system, the function that District Attorneys serve, DA-friendly legislation, and on the importance of young people getting involved in government.
Ballard commended the UGACRs in attendance for their "early interest in politics," citing the "future clout" they would have as a result.
He spoke about the need for more Republican District Attorneys among the 49 DAs of Georgia, saying that more Republican DAs would increase lobbying clout with the Republican General Assembly. He also pointed out that more Republicans in the District Attorney offices could fill future vacancies on the bench with less activist judges.
Ballard hailed the recent GOP victory in the Georgia General Assembly for its benefit to District Attorneys and prosectors, as much tougher criminal legislation was able to be passed, such as the move to give prosecutors an equal number of peremptory challenges as defense lawyers during jury selection, and the restitution bill which made it easier for crime victims to recoup actual monetary damages.
